Things you might see in Iceland
When you come to Iceland, says the brochure, you will see an unspoiled land of fire and ice, a land of volcanos and Vikings and really expensive shoes tottering down Laugavegur at five in the morning.
It makes no mention of the large group of junior-high-lookingish individuals you will see on the opposite bank of Tjörnin dressed in garbage bags and diapers being doused with the pond's filthy, shopping-cart-infested waters by strange figures in hip-waders and what is possibly a neon green alligator. And all this to the tune of Carmina Burana.

Back page of Morgunblaðið (Föstudagur 16. september 2005) has documentation of this rather strange event. Makes me gag just thinking about the amount of bread crumbs and bird droppings that are in the pond's water. Hopefully they got the appropriate vaccinations prior to partaking in this event.

My thoughts exactly.. hope this event is not followed up in several days by an article on the back page of Morgunblaðið documenting the outbreak of a mysterious new disease among the Reykjavík student population.....
It is so strange I cannot even construct a mental picture . . . and for some reason, for that I am very, very thankful
